Winipcfg

One of the quite useful utilities. It is not addressed together with the other utilities normally but it happens to be the one I use more frequently than any of the others.

This utility provides DNS (Domain Name Servers) ; your IP address, Wins servers (if you have any); DHCP and default gateways. It also provides the MAC (media access control) address of any adapter you may have installed.

You use this utility by using start --->Run and typing in winipcfg then hit enter or you can use it from a dos prompt in a DOS window.

Here is some command line switches:

/All display detailed information - you get a button you can click without using this.

/Batch [file] write to file or /winifcfg.out

/Renew_all Renew all adapters

/Release_all Release all Adapters

/renew N Renew adapter N

/release N Release Adapter N

Below is a picture. This provides quite a bit of information Some of this is mostly network oriented but most of us might want to know out IP address and DNS servers now and then. I intentionally left my Computer name (netbios) name out.
